Editing

Poetry

I specialise in giving detailed feedback and advice to strengthen, sharpen and hone poetry manuscripts or portfolios for submission or publication. I work closely with poets to ensure that their individual style and vision is respected throughout the editing process.

Over email or Zoom, or in-person, I’ll provide detailed guidance for editing and revising individual poems, as well as guiding you through the process of putting together and presenting your manuscript. Manusript editing also includes detailed notes using Word’s ‘Review’ function or Adobe, or written notes sent via post (UK clients only).

Proofreading

I offer a proofreading service for completed poetry manuscripts to get them in the best possible shape for submission or publication. Proof reading includes correction of grammar issues, typos, spelling errors and other inconsistencies. I work with writers to ensure that any changes are made with consent, and that the work achieves their aims and objectives. I can also format and prepare manuscripts for self-publishing.

Client Feedback

  • 'Kate has a laser focus for edits that is invaluable in ensuring the manuscript is the best it can be before submission to publishers. She is professional and supportive in the process, offering constructive feedback on content, running order, line edits, punctuation, context, voice... spotting issues that writers can often miss. I can't recommend her enough as great editors are a rare find indeed. I will be hiring her for my next manuscript project in the works.'

    Jason Conway, poet

  • 'I highly recommend Kate Potts as an absolutely excellent editor. The feedback she provided was clear and easy to follow. She was particularly helpful in pointing out weak areas in lines of reasoning, or contradictions, and it was a great asset for me to have Kate's fresh, well-read perspective. Kate understood what I was trying to achieve in my work. '

  • 'Kate (Dr Potts) is the quintessential example of professionalism, a perfectionist, and a professor of writing. What else could you want in an editor?'
